Most of the "local" contractors homeowners in Panora call are driving in from Des Moines. We're not — our shop's been here since 2006, and there's a decent chance you've seen our trucks around town longer than you've known us by name.
Panora's a town of under 3,000 people, and the housing reflects it: a core of older homes built long before anyone thought about open-concept kitchens, ringed by newer builds and, a short drive out, the cabins and year-round homes around Lake Panorama — the largest private lake in the state, built back in the '60s when the county figured a lake would do more for the local economy than another cornfield. That mix means the work here isn't one-size-fits-anything. A hundred-year-old farmhouse near downtown needs different handling than a lake house that gets hit with humidity all summer and freeze-thaw all winter.
