Clive Is an Old Place Wearing a Young City's Housing

Clive shows up on maps from the 1870s, clustered around a railroad crossing and a coal-mining settlement long since gone. But the city itself — as an incorporated place — didn't exist until 1956, and most of the housing dates from well after that. So you get an odd mix: a town with a genuinely old name and history, sitting on housing stock that's mostly mid-century-or-newer, with plenty of streets built out even more recently than that.

The other thing that shapes Clive is the Greenbelt — an 11-mile trail corridor along Walnut Creek that runs through the middle of the city and connects most of its parks and neighborhoods. Homes backing onto or near it, in areas like Indian Hills, tend to be well-kept and long-held, which usually means updates that need to respect a house that's been cared for rather than gutted and started over.
