Dale's an unincorporated community in Guthrie County that's changed names three times since it was first laid out in 1856 — Allen, then Morrisburg, then Dale City, before settling on Dale. It had a real economy once, built around a woolen mill that ran from 1858 until 1917, when the war cut off the German dye supply it depended on. There was a store, a schoolhouse, a church, a post office, even a stop on the Underground Railroad. Most of that is gone now. What's left is the rural land and the houses and farms scattered around where the town used to be.
We don't pretend Dale is a bustling place today — it isn't. But the properties out there are real, and they need the same kind of work as anywhere else, usually without a contractor willing to make the drive.
